Helping isolated older people

Older people living alone may be dealing at the same time with financial hardship, limited mobility and loneliness. When it is hard to get out to the shops or to a soup kitchen, even preparing a simple meal becomes a complicated task.

That is why help for isolated older people has to see the whole person. A hot meal is an important start, but a delivery to the door, a short conversation and a check that all is well can create a sense of security too.

How does a food delivery become a visit?

When a volunteer arrives with a packed portion, they have a chance to notice small things: whether the door opened easily, whether the person seems well, and whether there is a request or a difficulty that needs passing on. This is not a substitute for welfare or medical services, but a layer of community care that connects people to one another.

Respecting privacy, arranging visits in advance, and using respectful language let people accept the help without feeling exposed. That way the delivery stays both efficient and human.

How can you help?

You can volunteer on deliveries, packing portions, or supporting the work. A regular donation also helps keep things continuous and makes sure that no one who needs help is left without a meal.

If you know an older person who needs help, you can contact us and share the relevant details. Together we will look at what help is possible and the right way to provide it.
