A hot lunch

The cost of living is on every news channel: prices climbing and climbing. All of us are having to make choices and set priorities about what we spend, including at the supermarket. But whereas in a comfortable family the choice is between products that count as luxuries, in families on the lowest incomes the choice can be between foods that are all essential, giving up things that ought to be the basis of our diet. There are families, too, where the choice is between one meal and another, and they skip meals. That, of course, does harm to health and a great deal of other harm besides.

Our aim is to let those who cannot afford full, nourishing meals have at least one such meal, through our soup kitchen, which is open every day at lunchtime.

Eating at a soup kitchen, feeling like you're in a real restaurant

For many people the words "soup kitchen" conjure up poverty and pity. With us it is nothing like that. The only difference between our soup kitchen and a very good restaurant is the bill. With us, everyone is greeted first of all with a smile, before lunch is even served. For many people that alone gives a warm, good feeling. Of course, the smile and the friendly welcome are only the beginning. With us you can have a meat dish with sides and salads, all made from fresh, good ingredients. The soup kitchen is open from 12 to 2 and feeds around 100 people every day.

The students of our yeshiva are the ones who do all the work on the premises: preparing, serving, and clearing up and cleaning as well.

Keeping the work going with every donation

As we were taught as children, and as we know all too well as adults supporting a family: money does not grow on trees. We at the association are well aware of it and do everything we can to run things prudently on the one hand, and on the other to give the people who come to us a rich, nourishing, filling meal. So that we can keep doing this, we welcome any donation from you, large or small.

Thanks to your donations, you who are touched by kindness and for whom giving does good (in truth, all of us are like that), we will keep this enterprise going and growing, giving a nourishing meal to the hungry, and keep developing further channels of giving and contribution to the community, as we do today.
